Sumter County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Inc. is a Florida registered non-profit corporation, and an IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity.

The local ARES program, such as Sumter County ARES, is managed by the local Emergency Coordinator, (EC). The ARRL - ARES Emergency Coordinator is a key team player in carrying out the Mission of ARES in Sumter County, Florida. Coordinating efforts with the Sumter County Department of Emergency Management, and other civil emergency communications and response organizations, the EC prepares for and engages in management of communications needs in disasters and non-emergency events. The EC is assisted by an Assistant Emergency Coordinator, (AEC).
Sumter County ARES adopts the national Incident Command System (ICS) for its own organizational structure. The EC appoints members within the organization to select ICS functions to effectively carry out the ARES mission.
