Sumter County ARES is an officially registered participant in the Statewide Tornado Drill during the Severe Weather Awareness Week, 2024
10 AM ET, Wednesday, February 7th, 2024
EXERCISE ONLY - EXERCISE - ONLY
As a member of the Tampa Bay Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition, (TBHMPC), Sumter County ARES is an officially registered participant in Florida's Statewide Tornado Drill being conducted on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024. The National Weather Service will be sending out a test message via NOAA Weather Radios on February 7th at 10am throughout Florida. In addition, many counties will also send out test messages on their respective Alert systems.
This is an excellent opportunity to check your NOAA Weather Radio to ensure it is operating properly and to replace any batteries. To hear the test activation you should ensure your radio is set to also receive test messages. Please have your Weather Radio on, and acknowledge any messages you may receive from your county.
When the exercise alert is received, the Sumter County SKYWARN net will be activated on the K4HOG repeater on frequency 147.030 MHz, (Access tone 123.0 Hz). Sumter County ARES members, who can, are to check in to the SKYWARN net and follow all directions from the Net Control Operator. You DO NOT have to be a member of Sumter County ARES or any other organization to check into this Net. All license amateur radio operators are encouraged to check in. This exercise should take no longer than 15 minutes.
